The Ohio Museums Association is proud to partner with the Ohio Local History Alliance and the Ohio's Emerging Museum Professionals chapters in Columbus, Cleveland and Northwest Ohio for the regional workshop, "What are Employers Looking for During the Hiring Process."

We hope you can join us at the main location in Columbus, or at one of our satellite locations in Cleveland or Toledo, October 5 as we dive into what employers want from potential employees, interview best practices, and the best way to prepare for landing your next dream museum job! 

What are Employers Looking for During the Hiring Process - What to expect

Participants in each city will hear from a panel of local museum professionals involved with hiring at their museum. An audience question and answer session will also be available at the end of each panel discussion. 


Those registering for the Columbus, main workshop location will experience additional programming, including a Resume Boot Camp session and Ace the Interview (more information on those sessions below). PLEASE NOTE: Columbus location registration is only available via OLHAClick here to register for the Columbus location only.

Attendees registering for our regional satellite locations in Cleveland and Toledo will also receive access to a recording of at least a portion of the Columbus programming after the event.

Join OMA and the Ohio Local History Alliance for our statewide EMP workshop, October 5!

Please note: Columbus location registration is only available via OLHA

In conjunction with the Ohio Local History Alliance Annual Conference in Dublin, OMA will also be offering regional satellite locations for the OLHA pre-conference workshop: What are Employers Looking for During the Hiring Process.

Locations include:

  • Columbus (main location) – in conjunction with the OLHA Annual Conference
    Where: Ohio History Connection, 800 E. 17th Ave., Columbus, OH 43211
    When: 1:00 p.m.-5 p.m.
    This session includes a half-day of programming, including Resume Boot Camp (info below), Ace the Interview (info below), and Hiring Process panel discussion.

  • Cleveland
    Where: Cleveland Museum of Natural History, 1 Wade Oval Dr, Cleveland, OH 44106
    When: 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

  • Toledo
    Where: Wood County Historical Center and Museum, 13660 County Home Rd., Bowling Green, OH 43402

In each city, panelists will share their experience hiring new applicants into the museum field, what they are looking for in prospective candidates, and the best way to get noticed and land your next museum job. Question and answer sessions will also be available at the end of each panel discussion.

Attendees registering for our regional satellite locations will also have access to a recording of additional Emerging Museum Professionals-based programming taking place at the Columbus location, including:

  • Resume Boot Camp
    Sharon Hamersley, Resume Coach, has over 20 years’ experience helping individuals of all ages make a satisfying career decision or change. This session will focus on crafting a resume that best presents the job seeker’s skills and accomplishments for a 21st century job search.

  • Ace the Interview
    This interactive session will provide attendees with general interview advice with a focus on sharing specific examples that provide an interviewee the opportunity to articulate how his/her skills align with listener needs. We'll discuss appropriate ways to respond to behavioral based interview questions and how to develop great questions to ask of the interviewer.
