AMA Hall of Fame Museum seeks a Collections Coordinator.

The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, a historic motorcycle museum funded by the 501c3 nonprofit American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, is seeking a Collections Coordinator. The Collections Coordinator is responsible for the care, documentation, budgeting, acquisition and organization of the museum’s diverse collection of motorcycles and related memorabilia, honoring the individuals who have contributed to the history and culture of motorcycling in America. The Collections Coordinator works closely with fundraising staff, internal and external curators, consultants, donors and other staff and stakeholders to ensure the proper presentation, preservation, storage and use of the collection.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare donor and loan agreements and coordinate logistics for incoming and outgoing motorcycles and other objects, working directly with donors, lenders and service providers to ensure timely, safe and secure transport and storage.
  • Handle, prepare, store and organize motorcycles and other objects according to best practices, including considerations for environmental conditions and security.
  • Participate in the development and installation of exhibitions involving motorcycles and other objects from the collection, primarily at the museum but also at remote locations and events that promote and raise money for the museum.
  • Logistical and customer-facing event support when those events further the mission of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
  • Record information about motorcycles and other objects and their provenance, condition, location and history in the museum’s internal and online databases and files, including photography and other digital images.
  • Participate in the coordination and execution of monetization projects for the AMHF.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures for collections care, access, use and documentation, facilitating responsible access to the collection by researchers, donors and other external parties.
  • Support museum fundraising and resource development efforts and campaigns, including assisting with planning, administrative and creative tasks as directed.
  • Train and supervise volunteers and interns in collections-related tasks.
  • As-needed, open and close the museum.
  • As-needed, greet museum visitors, answer phones, sell merchandise and raffle tickets, process donations and AMA Memberships, and conduct daily POS reconciliation/reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KSAs

  • Proficiency in using collections management software and databases, such as PastPerfect.
  • Experience in handling, preparing, transporting, and installing motorcycles and other objects of various types and sizes.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with museum staff and external parties.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and organization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, climb ladders, and work in low light environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, history, motorcycle technology, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience working with museum collections or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of museum collections management principles and practices, including preservation, conservation, cataloging, storage, exhibition design, and legal and ethical issues.
  • Knowledge of motorcycle history, culture and design.

Salary range: 40,000 - 45,000
