Ashland County Historical Society seeks an Executive Director.

The executive director will determine and formulate policies and provide overall direction for the operations at the Ashland County Historical Society within the guidelines of the board of directors.  overall planning, direction, and coordination of operational activities at the highest level of management will be the responsibility of the Executive Director.  

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Must be available to work weekdays, weekends, and evenings.
  • Direct and coordinate the organization's financial budget to maximize investments and efficiencies.
  • Analyze operational data to evaluate the performance of programs and staff in meeting objectives and determine areas of program improvement, policy change, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Utilize project management skills for events, construction, and employee development.
  • Network within the community to promote the Ashland County Historical Society and its programs.
  • Hire new employees and coordinate the training of current staff when needed.
  • Establish departmental responsibilities and coordinate functions among departments and sites.
  • Prepare budgets for approval, including those for funding or implementation of programs.
  • Write and submit appropriate grant requests.
  • Meet regularly with the ACHS Board of Directors and keep them apprised of business concerns.
  • Meet regularly with staff and follow up on progress.
  • Develop and execute an annual calendar of events with the support of the staff.
  • Provide job performance evaluations for staff on a semi-annual basis.
  • Manage maintenance staff and assist in prioritizing preventative and new projects.
  • Develop relationships within the community to promote the ACHS mission statement of education, preservation, and community engagement.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in business or related subject.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, marketing, leadership, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Must have good judgment and decision-making skills and complex problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be able to gather and use data to support change.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office systems such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of social medical platforms such as Facebook, and Twitter.
  • Working knowledge of Accounting software such as Quickbooks.
  • Knowledge of CatalogIt computer software is preferable.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with ACHS board members, volunteers, and the public required.
  • Interest in and commitment to learning more about Ashland County and its residents.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States.
  • Reliable transportation.

Additional Notes: Job requires approximately 40+ hours per week during the hours of M- F, 8:00 a.m – 4:00 p.m.    Occasional additional hours may be required during peak seasonal events and weekends.  Fewer hours may be required depending on schedules and events. Salary range: 55,000 - 65,000
