Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens seeks a Full-Time Exhibitions and Collections Technician. The Exhibitions and Collections Technician is responsible for taking care of permanent and temporary displays and assisting the Exhibitions Department in installing and de-installing exhibitions. The position completes and ensures the thorough and accurate documentation of incoming and outgoing loans, and of the Exhibitions Department art collection and annual exhibition supplies and materials. The Exhibitions and Collections Technician will complete condition reports and make daily assessments and preform maintenance on the displays ensuring the safety and quality control of the displays. The role will take action and be a proactive team member assisting and ensuring a beautiful and successful exhibition.


  • Prepares exhibition spaces for installation, in addition to packing and unpacking exhibition objects.  Orders and keeps track of packing, storage, and installation tools and supplies.

  • Assists with the installations/de-installations in temporary exhibitions and permanent collection pieces, along with the transportation of display components, art, crates and supplies to and from off-site storage.

  • Works closely with the Exhibitions Manager to ensure best-practices in handling and installing objects.

  • Performs routine cleaning, maintenance, and preventative care of the exhibitions and work on display, such as preforming daily inspections, monitoring security, climate and pests; prioritizing repairs or adjustments, and organizing regular housekeeping on site and at offsite storage facility; collaborating with Engineering and Security departments to mitigate risks and resolve issues.

  • Adheres to strict design and quality control guidelines for the annual Conservatory Aglow exhibition by identifying the immediate issues discovered and reported throughout the day and proactively prioritize finding the solution to ensure a beautiful and successful exhibition.

  • Oversees the inventories of the department’s materials for displays, such as all of the annual Conservatory Aglow lights and materials. 

  • Assists in ensuring the ongoing accuracy of electronic and hard copy collection management records. Keeps the department’s database updated.

  • Arranges for or produces, edits and organizes exhibition and gallery installation images. Documents exhibitions for history. Creates and maintains files/binders, publicity slides/packets, records and general information.

  • Researches and responds to collections inquiries and donations.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Garden and other local activities, events and exhibits.

  • Performs other duties as assigned and demonstrates focus on serving the visitors and guests of Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.


  • BA or BFA degree is required. 

  • Minimum one-year experience working with collection databases in a cultural institution.

  • Knowledge of museum standard registration and art handling procedures.

  • Knowledge of current national and international art packing and transportation methods conforming to insurance and legal regulations.

  • Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and collections management databases.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Work is performed in a variety of locations ranging from outdoors, in an office environment, in a gallery setting, and in a warehouse. Must have ability to lift boxes or items weighing up to 30 pounds and able to move tables, chairs, pedestals and other items needed for meetings, events, exhibition installations, and similar functions.

  • Must possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

  • Attention to detail is essential.

  • The ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing priorities and deadlines.

Salary range: $14.00-$14.50
