Holden Forests & Gardens seeks a Guest Services Emergent Tower & Canopy Walk, Holden Arboretum.

The Guest Services department seeks a friendly team member to facilitate guest safety and enjoyment of the Murch Canopy Walk and Kalberer Family Emergent Tower which take guests on an immersive exploration of the forest and tree canopy. The staff monitors help guests learn about the property from April through November in varying weather conditions. Training is provided. This position is supervised by the Guest Services Lead and Associate Director of Guest Services. Weekend, holiday and occasional evening work is required.

Position Details: 

  • A part-time, Non-exempt position
  • Approximately 24-40 hours per week
  • Position is active through November

Key Responsibilities: Key responsibilities of the Guest Services Monitor include, but are not limited to: 

  • Actively welcome and receive guests, providing prompt and courteous service and orientation of the property, programs and events that support the mission and success of Holden Forests & Gardens
  • Support the Arboretum’s mission, values, vision, and core commitment to the visitor experience and community engagement.
  • Ensure proper admission policies are being followed by guests and staff
  • Ensure safety practices are being followed by guests and staff
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety and appearance of the tower and canopy
  • Manage customer concerns, communicates effectively verbally and via radio, provide prompt follow-up and relay information as needed to supervisor
  • Contribute positively to the Guest Services team including staff, volunteers and others 
  • Occasionally assist with event set-up, support special events and programs
  • Drive Holden Forests & Gardens golf carts on the property
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience with customer service in a similar setting desired
  • Must enjoy working with the general public, families and children
  • Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work within a team and be self-motivating when working individually
  • Ability to take initiative and problem-solve
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work weekends, evenings and some holidays

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Ability to understand basic instructions using the English language
  • Stand and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • Perform tasks in all weather conditions; temperatures may range from 0-100 F
  • Effective vision and hearing
  • Hand and arm dexterity
  • Walk and work on wet, uneven, slippery terrain
  • Kneel, bend, stoop, grab, and reach
  • Regular lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to work on either structure for extended periods of time including 202 stairs and platforms elevated 65-feet to 120-feet above ground
  • A valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record are required to be covered on Holden Forests & Garden’s vehicle insurance policy if using company vehicles
  • Must pass a criminal background check


Salary range: $11.25 an hour

Job classification: Part-time; seasonal (through November)
