Holden Forests & Gardens seeks a Guest Services Representative (botanical garden).

Holden Forests & Gardens is comprised of two world-renowned public gardens; Holden Arboretum located in rural Kirtland, Ohio and Cleveland Botanical Garden located in the urban University Circle region of Cleveland, Ohio. This position’s location is at Cleveland Botanical Garden which includes 10 acres of outdoor themed gardens, 2 indoor glasshouses and visitor, staff, event, education and parking facilities.

The Guest Services department seeks a friendly team member to facilitate an exceptional guest experience by offering great customer service while educating guests, selling admission, promoting membership, and working in the retail store and contributing to a positive team atmosphere at Cleveland Botanical Garden. Training is provided. This position is supervised by the Associate Director of Guest Services & Retail.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Actively welcome guests and members upon arrival to provide an orientation of the property, programs and events that support the mission and success of Holden Forests & Gardens
  • Provide friendly, clear and courteous customer service to encourage return visitation
  • Manage customer concerns, communicates effectively, provide prompt follow-up and relay information as needed to manager
  • Process sales transactions for admission, membership, programs and merchandise quickly and accurately using a computerized cash register and/or standalone credit card machine with point of sale system, Altru
  • Complete register opening /closing procedures and reconciliations
  • Assist with maintaining adequate stock levels of merchandise and supplies
  • Contribute positively to a team of seasonal guest services staff, volunteers, and others
  • Regularly assist with event set-up, support special events and programs
  • Answer guest telephone calls and respond accordingly
  • Maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of workspaces and facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Complete performance evaluations and set position goals with supervisor


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Retail and/or cash handling experience preferred
  • Experience with customer service in a similar setting desired
  • Must enjoy working with the general public, families and children
  • Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work within a team and be self-motivating when working individually
  • Ability to take initiative and problem-solve
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work weekends, evenings and some holidays
  • Must pass a criminal background check and substance screening
  • Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Ability to understand basic instructions using the English language
  • Stand and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • Perform tasks in all weather conditions; temperatures may range from 0-100 F
  • Effective vision and hearing
  • Hand and arm dexterity
  • Walk and work on wet, uneven, slippery terrain
  • Kneel, bend, stoop, grab, and reach
  • Regular lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds, occasionally 45 pounds


Salary range: $10-$11.50

Job classification: Part-time, hourly. Non-exempt (hourly), part-time; approximately 28 hours per week
