Holden Forests & Gardens seeks a Public Programs Coordinator.

The Education department seeks an organized, creative, and friendly team member to collaborate with Public Programs staff to develop new programs and opportunities for guest engagement, expand our growing camp program, and oversee the management of the natural play spaces at the Arboretum campus. This position is a full-time, exempt position supervised by the Associate Director of Public Programs. This position’s primary location is at the Holden Arboretum which spans 3,600 acres; the 200 core acres include themed gardens, trails, and plant collections with access to natural areas.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    Key responsibilities of the Public Programs Coordinator include, but are not limited to: 
  • Support the Arboretum’s mission, values, vision, and core commitment to the visitor experience and community engagement.
  • Manage Birthday Party program at Arboretum campus including; scheduling and training subcontract instructors, ordering materials and supplies and managing the program’s budget, revise program activities as needed, and serve as the primary contact for this program area.
  • Plan, organize and implement a camp schedule, curriculum, and operations across both campuses, including hiring and training subcontract instructors.
  • Instruct as needed at summer camps, Birthday parties as well as occasionally facilitate and instruct as part of the quarterly class schedule or other departmental programs, particularly for youth and family programs.
  • Develop and manage budgets within program area.
  • Oversee programmatic and maintenance aspects of the nature play spaces at the Holden Arboretum campus; Buckeye Buds Adventure Woods and the Habitat Hut
  • Develop educational engagement opportunities at events and exhibits at the Arboretum campus.
  • Occasionally, serve as the point of contact for volunteers and seasonal workers for educational related projects.
  • Provide friendly, clear, and courteous customer service to encourage return visitation.
  • Contribute positively to a team of seasonal staff, volunteers, and others
  • Maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of workspaces and facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental education, natural sciences, museum studies or related field or extensive related field experience will be considered.
  • 2 or more years program management experience in a similar setting desired
  • Experience teaching in a summer camp setting is preferred
  • Must enjoy working with the general public, families and children
  • Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work within a team and be self-motivating when working individually
  • Ability to take initiative and problem-solve
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work occasional weekends, evenings, and some holidays
  • Must pass a criminal background check

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Perform tasks in all weather conditions; temperatures may range from 0-100 F
  • Effective vision and hearing

  • Regular lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds, occasionally 45 pounds

Salary range: 35,000-40,000
